About

Hi, I’m Bill. The magic of flying has captured my imagination ever since I can remember. For me the ability to fly gives access to unparalleled freedom and adventure. From the pure open air bird-like experience of hang gliding or microlighting to touring in light aircraft, all types of flying have their charm.

I can offer specialist design services, CAA airworthiness and Company Exposition paperwork, structural and flight test schedules including experimental programs, inspection, quality control, accident investigation. I can also arrange aircraft export and import if required.

I work with Industry, private individuals and Universities e.g. Cranfield, Southampton, UWE. Some of my work is through Acroflight ltd on a variety of aircraft projects such as the Rolls Royce Accel electric speed record project.

As a BMAA and LAA qualified inspector, I work with aircraft owners to revalidate their permits, complete their aircraft projects or modify them to their specification. I can also generate repair schemes where necessary.

My experience in full size aircraft goes back 40 years when I learned to fly hang gliders. At the time there were various attempts to add power to them with variable success and safety. My first aircraft design was “Cloud 9”, a foot launched canard with a 9hp Stihl engine. I designed, built and flew this as my final year project on the Coventry University Industrial Design & Transport course. It was designed as a purpose built powered aircraft, with the necessary stability and control to fly safely. They thought it would be the first posthumous degree but I survived and got first class honours.

This led to a job with British Air Ferries who decided that the embryonic microlight rules allowed aircraft to be designed which could make flying training much quicker and cheaper. I designed the Dragon 2 seat 3 axis control machine, assisted by my friend Ken Jones also from the Coventry course. It was a taildragger with a 1930’s style, pleasant to fly and very slow.

I then designed the Pegasus Quasar, Quantum, Quik range, PulsR and Hypertrike microlights. I was also involved in the initial layout of the Farnborough F1 6 seat, composite, turboprop air taxi.
